HILLSDALE, WI DALLAS, WI 54733∼Alva "Butch" L. Van Houten, 70, of Rockford passed away December 21, 2014, at his home, surrounded by his family, after a 71/2 year battle with prostate cancer. Butch was born December 8, 1944, in St. Paul, MN; he was the son of Alva L. and Evelyn (Elly) Van Houten. He married on September 18, 1982, in Rockford. A U.S. Navy Vietnam Veteran; he retired from Sundstrand after 30 years of employment, and was a member of Local 592. An avid genealogist for many years, was a member of Find A Grave. Butch enjoyed attending Vanning events, swimming at the Millennium Club, reading, and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Survivors include his wife of 32 years; children; 11 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; brother; sisters; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Larry; granddaughter, Brittany; great-grandson, Jalen. Memorial service 2 p.m. Sunday, January 4th, at Advantage Funeral Home, 7000 W. State Street, Rockford. Visitation one hour prior to service.
