Dear Sir,

Reference is made to your request for information in regard to John Naglee, who served
in Captain Samuel Peterson's company of New Jersey militia in the War of 1812.

The data which follow were obtained from claim for bounty land on file under Wt 100654-160-55, based upon the service of John Naglee in the War of 1812.

The date and place of birth of John Naglee, and names of his parents are not shown.

John Naglee enlisted in Cumberland County, New Jersey, served as a private in Captain
Samuel Peterson's company of New Jersey militia, from September 26, 1814 until January 4, 1815.

John Naglee married April 7, 1816, in Bridgeton, New Jersey, Elizabeth Hann. The date and place of her birth and names of parents are not given.
John Naglee died March 7, 1849 in Bridgeton, New Jersey.

On account of his service in the War of 1812, the widow, Elizabeth Naglee, was allowed one hundred sixty acres of bounty land on her application executed on December 25, 1861, at which time she was 64 years of age, and a resident of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. In 1862, Harriet Naglee and Louisa B Naglee were residing in Philadelphia, and stated that they were well acquainted with both the soldier, John Naglee, and his wife, Elizabeth. It is not shown that they were related to the family.
The papers on file in this claim contain no further discernible family data.
The application for headstone for John Naglee is returned herewith. There was no correspondence

On this 26th day of December 1861 personally appeared before me the subscriber an alderman and ex-officio a Justice of the Peace in and for the city and state aforesaid. Elizabeth Naglee aged 64 years as resident of said city who being duly sworn according to the law declares that she is the widow of John Naglee deceased who was a private in the company commanded by Captain Samuel Peterson, in the regiment of New Jersey militia commanded by Colonels Joshua L. Howell in the war between the United States and Great Britain, declared on the 18th day of June 1812 that he was drafted at Cumberland County, New Jersey in or about October 1814 and was honorably discharged at Cumberland County aforesaid about January 1815. She further declared that she was married to the said John Naglee of Bridgeton, New Jersey about the 7th day of April 1816 by Holmes Parvin, a Justice of the Peace, and that her name before the said marriage was Elizabeth Hann and that her said husband died at Bridgeton, New Jersey on the 7th day of March 1849 and she declares that she is now a widow and that she makes the application to obtain the bounty land to which she is entitled to under Act of March 3, 1855 and she hereby appoints E.O. Jackson her attorney to obtain the same for her and she further declared that she has never received a bounty land claimant, never made application before own before.

We Mary Garton and Harriet Naglee residents of the city and state aforesaid upon on oaths declare that the foregoing declaration and signed and acknowledged by Elizabeth Naglee in our presence and that we are uninterested witnesses and we further declared that we well know the said Elizabeth Naglee and well know her said husband John Naglee in his lifetime, that they lived together and cohabited as husband and wife and as such were esteemed and respected and so regarded and reported by their neighbors and friends and that this marriage has never been doubted or called into question to our knowledge, and that he died on or about the date within

On the 13th day of February 1862 personally appeared before me the subscribed an alderman and ex officio as Justice of the Peace in and for said city aforesaid Elizabeth Naglee who being duly sworn according to law declares that she is the widow of John Naglee deceased late of Captain Samuel Peterson's company New Jersey militia War of 1812, that she was married to said husband at Bridgeton, New Jersey on the 7th day April 1816 by Holmes Parvin, Esq as stated by her application for bounty land #316829 that she is unable to produce any marriage certificate of said marriage or the testimony of eyewitness to her said marriage and she relies upon the testimony of her witnesses hereunto and to her said application for herself of her said marriage and the death of her husband it being the time and any evidence she can furnish and that she is now a widow, that she cannot obtain record evidence of her marriage or death of her husband.

The letter Joseph Daffute, Esq of Glassboro for New Jersey of the first national is here to return and in reply I have this honor to state that the record of this office show that on this 9th day February 1862 and of 100-600 for 160 acres of bounty made the act of March 5, 1855, was affirmed in the name of Elizabeth Naglee, widow of John Naglee for same during the War of 1812 in Colonel Samuel Peterson's Company, NJ militia from September 26, 1814 to January 4, 1815 and that E.O. Jackson Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

John Naglee married April 7, 1816, in Bridgeton, New Jersey, Elizabeth Hann. The date and place of her birth and names of parents are not given.
John Naglee died March 7, 1849 in Bridgeton, New Jersey.

On account of his service in the War of 1812, the widow, Elizabeth Naglee, was allowed one hundred sixty acres of bounty land on her application executed on December 25, 1861, at which time she was 64 years of age, and a resident of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
