John Bailey was the son of Joseph Bailey and Eleanor Foote Frum Bailey. He married Sarah Elizabeth Findley on Dec. 6, 1809 in Harrison County, WV.

Harrison Co., Deed Book, #18, pg. 64 shows Joseph Bailey and wife Eleanor , sold 11 1/2 acres on Simpson Creek to John Bailey for the sum of $5.00. 30 Ap r 1826.

1850 Virginia Census, Taylor Co., entry 575-579, shows John, age 66, farmer, born in Virginia; Mary, age 48; Ellen, age 24, Sarah, age 22; Elizabeth, age 20; John, age 17; and William Finley, age 10.

According to Genealogical and Personal History of the Upper Monongahela Valley, WV (originally published in three volumes: New York, 1912: John Bailey was born in Virginia in 1768 [this is incorrect based on grave marker and census]. He settled in Taylor Co. (now West Virginia), about 1792. This settlement was on Simpson creek, at what is now known as Flemington. Here he took up a tract of land and followed agriculture, taking out patents on the land named. He was active and industrious, and at his death, about 1840, aged seventy-two years, was buried in the old Bailey burying ground or church yard. His wife was Sarah Elizabeth Finley. All born on Simpson Creek, WV: Joseph, William, Silas P., John W., Ellen, Elizabeth, Sarah, and Ann.
