Frank was born in Berlin, Germany on May 23, 1851. The names of his parents and particulars of his birth are not known. In 1867, he came to America with his sister. They traveled to Ohio and Frank spent a short time there. In 1870, he was living in Nekimi, Winnebago County, Wisconsin, working on the Joseph Helm farm. Before 1878, he came to Menomonie, Wisconsin, where he worked as a gardener for Senator Stout. On November 29, 1878, he married Ann Hurth, daughter of Peter and Barbara Hein Hurth. Frank and Ann had six children, but two died in infancy. Their childrern were all baptised at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Menomonie, whose records were kept in German. Ann died in 1892, and Frank never remarried. He became a United States citizen on March 12, 1894. Frank died in the hospital at Menomonie on December 21, 1934. He is buried in Evergreen Cemetery in Menomonie.
