Architect. Known for his houses with strong personalities and fine details mainly in Berkeley, California and Marin County, California. He graduated with honors in 1897 from Stanford University and the following year attended a special course in Berkeley where he founded the California Gamma chapter of Phi Kappa Psi. He designed 22 houses in the better parts of Berkeley plus several others, and after the 1920's his work was mainly in Marin County, where many of his houses, as those in Berkeley were on sites that had 'difficult' lots. In 1919 he became the editor of the Pacific Coast Architect. He held that position until 1933, frequently writing the lead articles. Another architectural magazine said that "...Mr. Allen likes to plan houses which fit into their environment, which look as though they 'belonged'....". In his later years he was an inspector for the Federal Housing Authority.
