Samuel was a Business man and Farmer in the Lindale area
near Flora and later at Thedford on Hwy. 69 just north of
I-20. He had a Mercantile store in Lindale on FM 16 and the Rail Road tracks. He was Trustee on several School boards and Banks. Sam and two other Farmers with adjoining land donated five acres each for the foundation of this Cemetery and the Nebo church. However they did not get it recorded in the Smith County records, so all was lost until the 1960's or 1970's. At that time Peggy Kirkley(Sitton Grand daughter)approached Mr. James Fair, who owned all the surrounding Land agreed to allow
Sitton Cemetery , one acre.
Samuel had four children by Nancy R. Sitton, but their graves have not been located as yet, they are:
Sarah T. Sitton born 1841, James C.D. Sitton (Vet.CSA)born
1843, Caroline Pricilla Sitton born June 6, 1845-died Mar.20, 1911, Samuel Hughes Sitton born 1855 - died 1916.
