She was born January 16, 1921 in Ottumwa to Harry Steven and Emma Ferguson Overturf. She married Eugene "Boots" Swanson on September 3, 1938. He preceded her in death on October 25, 1999.
A 1938 graduate of Ottumwa High School, Margaret had worked at Wardrobe Cleaners and Ottumwa Community Schools before retiring in 2006.
Margaret was a member of First Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed working in the yard and gardening. She loved playing racquetball, swimming and spending time with her family and pets.
Surviving is her son, Bob (Diana) Swanson of Ottumwa; and a granddaughter, Sarah (Stephen) Danielson of Riverside.
She was preceded in death by her father, mother and step-father, Leo Terrell; and her siblings, Steven H. Overturf, George R. "Jiggs" Overturf, Sarah Brown, Martha McDonald and two infant sisters, Marjorie June and Mary Louise Overturf.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. David Klanderman officiating. Burial will be in Ottumwa Cemetery. Visitation begins at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Reece Funeral Home with the family present from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice Care Initiatives, or Heartland Humane Society.
