Son of Willie and Sallie Boyd Rowell. Travis married Christine Blackmon on January 29, 1938.
Travis was manager of B.C. Moore & Sons Department store during three different periods - before WW II, when he returned from service and then again prior to his retirement in 1968 on account of health reasons. Before he resumed the managership of this firm for the third time, he went into business for himself in a sporting goods shop.
Travis was a deacon of the Marion Presbyterian Church, Crawford-Monroe Post, American Legion; and a Mason with membership in Clinton Lodge. He also was a member of the Marion County Fish and Game Commission.
Travis was an enthusiastic supporter of athletic sports and was one of the founders of the Swamp Fox Booster Club, a club that has given monumental help to the athletic program at Marion High School since its organization.
