During is youth and early teens, he resided in Nebraska and Alaska, developed skills in marksmanship, and hunted in Alaska, including the Arctic.

Graduated with Honors from Charleston High School in 1987
He was a 3 - sport letter man during his High School years
Served in the United States Navy on the Battleship USS New Jersey (BB-62), and, at the Long Beach, CA Naval Station used his talents in various capacities including security issues.
