Gordon Leslie Smith Jr., 77, passed away peacefully Saturday, June 9, 2007. Graveside services will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery. His family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Thompson's Harveson and Cole Funeral Home.

Gordon Leslie Smith, Jr. was born in Galesburg, Ill., to the late Gordon and Helen Smith. He spent his early childhood years in Galesburg before moving to Texas. Gordon graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a degree in architecture in 1953. He served in the U.S. Army, earning the National Defense Service Medal. In 1955, he completed his service in the U.S. Army and began his architectural career that lasted over 30 years. Gordon loved to travel the country, seeing new places and meeting new friends. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed camping. He logged hundreds of thousands of miles in his VW campers, crisscrossing the country, chasing the seasons and visiting friends.

Survivors include sons, Brent Smith and wife, Virginia, of Richardson, Bryan Smith and wife, Joanne, of Austin, and Brooks Smith and wife, Robin, of Fort Worth; eight grandchildren; and a host of friends.
