Frank was one of six children of Frank Kirton and Frances Kate Howden. He immigrated to Hamilton Ontario, Canada in 1914 with his brother Claude as a British Home Child, and his brother Lionel didn't immigrate until 1929. Frank soon enlisted in the Expeditionary Forces and served briefly in France. Contracting influenza he returned to Toronto Canada. After discharge he returned home to Hamilton where he married Pearline Vyse, but the marriage was reported to have been annulled because she had lied about her age and was only a minor. He moved to the States, leaving his family unaware of his whereabouts. He married Malinda Scott in 1928 a few months after Pearline died. He had changed his surname to Dempsay. He and Malinda had three children, two daughters and one son. His wife died nine years after he did. both Frank and Malinda were involved in the restaurant business. They are buried together in Okmulgee Cemetery.
