From The Hayneville Citizen Examiner, Jan. 23, 1913:
In the recent death of Mr. F.H. Kennedy, better known as Uncle Fed, Lowndes County lost her oldest landmark ... He came to Lowndes County from South Carolina in 1833, settling in Hayneville, where he lived until the War between the States. He was an excellent solider, rendering good service to his country throughout the war. Afterwards, he came to Fort Deposit, where he has resided. "Uncle Fed" numbered his friends by his acquaintances. During his last illness, due consideration was shown to him by the U.D.C.'s who paid their last tribute of respect by covering his grave at Sandy Ridge cemetery with flowers.
