He was born September 6, 1958 in Shelby to parents Chester & Ines Pearl Hicks. In spare time, he took pleasure in hunting squirrel, rabbit and deer. He was a hard worker plowing in the winter and mowing in the summer. It was said that his John Deer was the love of his life after his wife and kids.
He is survived by his loving wife Lona (Slaughter) Hicks of Utica; children Monica Kabbaz of Flint, MI, Ryan Slaughter of Utica, Doug Hicks Jr. and Joshua Hicks; siblings Roger James of Shiloh, Sandra Leonard of Glendale, AZ, Bonnie Gushard of Shelby, Ronnie Hicks of Mansfield, Rhonda Adkins of Mansfield and Valonne R. Hicks of Mansfield; and his three dogs Mary, Shadow and Sammie.
In addition to his parents, Doug was preceded in death by siblings June Montgomery and Louise Fromm.
A funeral service honoring Doug’s life will be held Friday, August 3, 2018 at 1 p.m. Pastor David Daniels will speak.
