Loving father of Karen Lindh-Solt (Chuck) of Antelope, Teresa (widow of beloved son, Paul) of Grass Valley, Stephen (Elizabeth) of Anaheim, Martin III (Glenda) of Auburn, Jeffrey (Susan) of Newcastle, Laura Azevedo (Myron) of El Dorado Hills, Lisa Wheeler (Eric) of Roseville. Grandfather of Stefanie, Michelle (Tamar), Jessica (Blake), Jack (Hilary), Nicole (Sean), Ryan, Cameron, Andrew, and Christian. Great-grandfather of Lauren, Charles, Tamar Jr., Pierce, and Chaz. Also survived by his brother Richard (Betty) of Knoxville, TN. Martin had a long and successful career in both the private and public sectors. He was a pioneer in the development of nurse staffing models and computerized systems at mental hospitals thoughout the USA. Retiring after 20 years at the State of California, he was proud of his work as a public servant, playing a key role in automation management and oversight for the Department of Mental Health. He was a past member of a number of organizations, including SIRS Branch 67, the American Institute of Industrial Engineers; St. John the Evangelist; and Diocesan Union of Holy Name Societies. Martin and Lee enjoyed dancing and belonged to several groups. He performed years of volunteer service, with the Sacramento County District 2 Sheriff's Center and the Sacramento Chapter of the American Cancer Society. Martin was a devoted husband and father, and greatly enjoyed his role as Grandpa. He was a gifted storyteller, entertaining all who knew him. He and his wife, Lee, raised their tight-knit family with a strong foundation of faith, Christian values, love and service to others. Married almost 65 years before her passing, he adored Lee and looked forward to being reunited with her again with the glory of God in Heaven.
Services will be held at St. John the Evangelist Church at 5751 Locust Ave., Carmichael on Tuesday, July 31, 2018. The viewing service is at 10:00 am; Rosary at 10:30 am; and Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am. Reception following the service. There will be a private interment in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Sacramento, CA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. John's Vincent DePaul Society or Loaves and Fishes.
