Paul Franklin Brownlow, 87, of Oak Ridge, died Sunday, July 20, 2003, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.
Born in Johnson City, he was the son of Lloyd and Adele Sierman Brownlow, both now deceased.
Mr. Brownlow retired from Martin Marietta Energy Systems maintenance department in 1967. His relatives were involved in the establishment of Knoxville's Brownlow School, Brownlow Cemetery and the Republican Whig which later became the Knoxville Journal. In Johnson City, the Brownlows established Brownlow Bandstand, the veteran's home and St. Mary's Catholic Church. His uncle, W.C. Brownlow, was a prominent Tennessee congressman whose picture hangs in the state capital in Nashville. Another uncle was known as "Parson" Brownlow as he traveled and preached on horseback.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by Margaret Sullivan Brownlow.
Mr. Brownlow is survived by Elinor and her children.
According to his family, he will be remembered by numerous friends.
His family said would like to thank Dr. Seay, friends, neighbors and the parishioners of St. Mary's Catholic Church.
A funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Friday, July 25, 2003, at St. Mary's Catholic Church with the Rev. Michael Woods officiating.
The family requests that any memorials be made in the form of contributions to St. Mary's Catholic Church Building Fund, 327 Vermont Ave., Oak Ridge, TN 37830.
