Evelyn M. Abate, 84, of Rockford, Illinois, departed her life here on earth May 11, 2012. Born June 1, 1927, to Sam and Olga Undzen. Married Carl A. Abate on July 8, 1950.

She lived all her life in Rockford and was a member of St. Anthony Church. She was a devoted and loving mother and grandparent.

Evelyn loved to cook, had a great sense of humor and was drawn to the excitement of slot machines and a chance to win a bag of money.

Telling her the things that she should do or what she wasn't doing would always lead to the same response: "Tell me about it," or she would say, "ha, ha, ha!"

Evelyn is lovingly survived by: her daughter, Carol Miller; sons, Victor (Patti) Abate, John (Uta) Abate, Richard (Shelly) Abate and Carl Abate; grandchildren, Matthew (Leslie) Abate, Benjamin Abate (Kelly), Nicholas Abate (Sarah), Renee (Brian) Bederka, Greg (Angel) Abate, Becky (Jeremy) Horn, Stephanie Abate, Adam Abate and Taylor Parlapiano; great grandchildren; brothers, Donald (Joyce) Poshka and Raymond Poshka.

Predeceased by: parents; husband, Carl Abate, brothers, Jerry, Albert, John and Norman.

Funeral mass Wednesday, May 16, in St. Anthony Church. Interment at Calvary Cemetery.

From Gasparini and Oliveri Funeral Home.
