Ithaca - Ruth Ingram Bynum passed away peacefully at Oak Hill Manor on Wednesday, January 31, 2018 at the age of 100. Ruth was born in Cheraw, South Carolina on May 4, 1917, the youngest of six children of the late Thomas and Emmie Ingram. She saw her father's business changing from horses to cars. Proud to be a small business owner at a young age, Ruth opened a beauty shop in South Carolina which she operated until marrying her husband, William. Bill's career in the Army took them to many places. Among her favorites were Clemson, South Carolina and Heidelberg, Germany. She became adept at adapting quickly and flourished as mother to her two children. After retirement, Ruth and Bill settled in Raleigh, North Carolina, where she was active in Hayes Barton Methodist Church until she moved to Trumansburg, New York to be closer to family. Ruth was always family oriented and had a unique relationship with each of her grandchildren and great grandchildren, holding an important role in each of their lives. Ruth is survived by two children: Carolyn Lange and William (Madlyn) Bynum Jr.; eight grandchildren: Laurence (Darlene) Lange, Emily (Warren Miller) Lange, Roland (Abigail Bedrick) Lange, Kate (Tom) Addonizio, Calvin (Brenda) Lange, Gregory Bynum, Nathan (Heba ElGawish) Bynum, and Rachel (Eric Plaksin) Bynum; 15 great grandchildren: Thomas (Rio), Asia, Damian, Jacob, Mason, Tobias, Jason, Ryan, Elinor, Flora, Luke, Nicholas, T.J., Isaac, and Nina; one great great granddaughter, Luella; and close friend, Pam Snyder. In addition to her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, William L. Bynum in 1982, and her five older siblings. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, February 10, 2018 at the First Presbyterian Church of Ulysses, 69 East Main Street, Trumansburg.
