Nelda Turner Pugh Whitfield, was born on July 15, 1936.

She married William E. Whitfield, Jr. from Visalia, California, a newly commissioned U.S. Marine Corp Pilot on October 24, 1954 in Dauphin Way Baptist Church by Dr. Harold Seever. After the service tour they moved to Fullerton, Calif. in 1957. In 1966, her husband Bill was called into the Gospel Ministry, they moved to Mobile, Ala., where Bill enrolled in Mobile College, then Southern Seminary in Louisville, Ky. Later when her husband Bill was called to be the Pastor at Cypress Shores Baptist Church in 1971, in Mobile, Nell worked at Southern Bell and J.C. Penney Co, where she worked in the Personnel Office, for over 15 years. When her husband retired from Cypress Shores Baptist Church, they became members at Dauphin Way Baptist Church where she was a faithful, ministering wife with her husband who was called to be the part time Minister to Seniors and Pastoral Care. They served together in this calling together, for 19 years.

She is survived by her husband, William E. Whitfield Jr., son, William E. Whitfield III, (Anita); daughters, Kimberly Merchant (Pat), Carrie Green (Calvin); nine grandchildren, Stacey Griggs (Trey), Brooke Bailey (Eric), Blake Stone (Rodney), Britanie Emens (Randy), Jonathan Green (Tara), Kim Coleman (Jeff), Laurel Green, and eleven Great grandchildren, cousins, nephews, friends and brothers and sisters in Christ.

Funeral services will be held from Dauphin Way Baptist Church on Thursday, December 21, 2017 at 12:00 Noon with visitation beginning at 10:00 AM. Interment will be in Mobile Memorial Gardens.
