PESOTUM – Philip D. Stiebner Sr., age 69, of Pesotum passed away at his home at 4 p.m. Wednesday (Dec. 6, 2017) after a brief struggle with aggressive cancer.

Phil was retired from Unit 4 schools in Champaign after having served as head custodian for South Side, Ben Franklin, Stratton and Columbia schools. The Unit 4 Award for Merit was given to Phil for shutting down a boiler on fire at Ben Franklin and saving the building from potentially severe damage.

Phil was a member of several fraternal organizations and clubs, including the Loyal Order of Moose, Fraternal Order of Eagles, Knights of Pythias, Masons and Prairie A's Model A Ford Club.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Judith; his oldest son, Dean (Aaron Penn-Stiebner), grandson, Jaden, and stepgranddaughter, Jonna Penn, of Bloomington, his youngest son, Kevin (Mara) of Tolono, stepgranddaughters, Shelby Craft and Sydney Craft, and great-stepgranddaughter, Aubrey; as well as Phil's older brother, John (Diane).

A celebration of life will be planned for a later date following his interment at Woodlawn Cemetery in Urbana.
