Homer Franklin Clayton, age 93, of Knoxville, passed away on August 23, 2017. Preceded in death by: parents Harvey and Ethel Clayton; sisters Christine Clayton and Lorene Glenn; brothers Owen, Hayward, and Henry Clayton; son-in-law John Stephens. Survived by his wife of 69 years, Doris Clayton; daughters Donna Stephens and Cathy (Don) Taylor; grandchildren Clay (Heather) Stephens, Clint (Yulia) Stephens, Amy (Jon) Tucker, and Phillip (Christina) Taylor; great grandchildren Laura and Grant Stephens, Taylor and Jude Tucker, Joel Taylor, and Yuliana Stephens. "Clayton" began his career on the Great Lakes in the Merchant Marines then served in the United States Navy on a mine sweeper during WWII. He retired from the Oak Ridge Y-12 Plant as a construction engineer after a 42-year career. Clayton loved the outdoors and the Smoky Mountains. He enjoyed wood working, gardening, and yardwork until declining health intervened. Clayton left this world "on time, within budget, and according to specifications." The family will receive friends on Saturday, August 26, from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm at Rose Mortuary Broadway Chapel. Funeral service will follow at 1:00 pm Rev. Mark Moreland officiating. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Friends of the Smokies, P.O. Box 1660, Kodak, TN
