The daughter of Mahitable “Hattie” Cone Edwards McClelland and her first husband John P. Edwards, Mary J. Edwards McClelland was born about 1861 in Effingham County, Georgia. She was born shortly after her father's death. When her mother remarried, she took the surname of her stepfather, William Henry McClelland. She had four half-sisters and one half-brother. She passed away after 1880. When and where she died is unknown, but she is probably buried in an unmarked grave in the large McClelland family plot at Old Fellowship Baptist Church Cemetery in Bulloch County. I hope someone will add her photo to this site.

The final resting places of Mary and one of her half-sisters, Narsissie, are unknown. Did either of them marry? In the 1900 census a grandson, John Melton (born in 1896), is shown living with the sisters’ parents. Was one of the two sisters married to a Mr. Melton?

Thanks so much to McClelland family genealogists for much of this information. Any errors, however, are mine alone. Please go to the "edit" link on this site with any corrections or additions. If a closer relative than I would like to manage this burial site, please let me know.
