Perry Duane Antill
September 8, 1940 - February 5, 2017
Perry Duane Antill, 76, of Virgie, passed peacefully at his home on Sunday, February 5, 2017 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. He was born and raised in Camron, West Virginia, the son of Perry and Bernice (McCracken) Antill. He was a member of the Camron High School class of 1958 and went on to earn a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of West Virginia College of Forestry in 1962. He remained a strong supporter and fan of WVU athletics throughout his life. He met Brenda at First National Bank in Virgie, where she worked in 1967. They were married in 1968 at Virgie Freewill Baptist Church. Perry and Brenda were life-long members of Caney Creek Freewill Baptist Church where he served as an elder. In 1967 Perry started Forestry and Land Reclamation Service-a company he would run until his retirement. In addition, he opened and operated Virgie Farm and Garden Center for many years during the 1970’s and 80’s. He was also a charter member of the Shelby Valley Volunteer Fire Department. He took pride in his work, but truly relished the friends he made through the church and through his business. Over the years, Perry developed a reputation in the community as an honest and humble Christian man and also someone who loved making others smile with his dry wit. Often, when someone would complain about the cold weather, he might calmly agree, “Yeah, it lacked twelve inches snowing a foot in Pikeville.” Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother; Ronald G. Antill.
He leaves his wife of 48 years; Brenda Delores (Hamilton) Antill, his son; Gregory Duane Antill and his wife; Becky (Newsome) Antill of Florida, two grandsons; Alexander Greyson and Sawyer Mason Antill, along with a community of close friends.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 1:00 PM at Hall & Jones Funeral Home with Tommy England and Brian Hundley officiating. Entombment will follow in the JU Thacker Mausoleum at Shelbiana.
