Winifred ''Freddy'' Lain, 97, of Panhandle passed away Friday, January 20, 2017 in Amarillo.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 25th, 2017 at the First Baptist Church of Panhandle with Pastor Josh Light officiating. Burial will follow at the Panhandle Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Panhandle.

Winifred Lain was born December 6, 1919 in Memphis, Texas to Thelma Anice (Provence) and Elmer Cecil Baker. She married Ford Lain December 25th, 1937 in Olton, and had been a Panhandle resident since 1956. Freddy loved attending church at the First Baptist Church in Panhandle where she was a member. She was also a member of the 55 plus club, and involved in Love and Action ministries at her church. Freddy loved cooking and feeding everyone. She also had a sweet tooth, especially for chocolate. One of her biggest passions in life was to watch her grandkids play sports.

Survivors include her daughter Susan James and husband Neil of Panhandle, her brother Jack Dale Baker and wife Sonya of Portland, Oregon, five grandchildren Wes James and wife Shoko, Will James and wife Dawn, Sarah James, Aaron Sams and wife Nikki, Alyson Sams and Marcus, and nine great grandchildren.

Winifred is preceded in death by her husband Ford March 24th, 2006, her parents, a son Jimmy in 1988, a daughter Christy Sams in 1999, son in law Junior Sams in 1998, and a great granddaughter Mia Jewell Nickels in 2004.

In Lieu of flowers donations may be made to Love in Action Ministries PO Box 189 Panhandle, Texas 79068.

The family would like to send out a special thank you to the kind and caring staff of the Plum Creek Health Care residence of Amarillo, and Kindred Hospice.
