Ray was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. He retired after 30 years as a custodian in the Bay City Schools working at Bay City Central and Thomas Jefferson Schools.
He was a member of the BARSP and MaRSP. He enjoyed ice fishing, ice skating and roller skating. He served the Michigan National Guard.
Survivors include his wife of 67 years, the former Lydia Oblender, whom he married November 14, 1942; as well as a nephew Roy R. (Mary) Krenz; a niece Terry Vanderwill; a niece Carol Blehm; and a nephew Roy Browning; an honorary niece Linda (Roger) Brown; two grandnephews Michael (Patti) Krenz and Jeffrey (Theresa) Krenz; as well as great-nieces and -nephews Dawn, David and Justin Krenz, Stephanie and Sean Pogue, Eric and Laura Krenz; great-great nieces Carley and Leah Pogue. Funeral and committal service will be Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church. The Rev. Leslie D. Tyvela will officiate. Private burial will be at Floral Gardens Cemetery. Visiting hours will be Friday from 2 to 4:30 p.m. and 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Penzien-Steele Funeral Home. He will lie in state at the Church on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until service time. Memorials may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church or McLaren Visiting Nurse Services and Hospice.
