David Dean Hartwig passed away Jan. 10, 2017, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit of North Iowa. He was 68 years old.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 12, 2017, at First Shell Rock Lutheran Church, Northwood, with the Rev. David Emmons officiating.

Visitation will be Thursday one hour prior to the service at the church.

Burial will be at State Line Cemetery.

He was born Jan. , 1949, to Harold and Verna Hartwig. David went to school in St. Ansgar and Mason City schools, graduating from Mason City High School in 1967.

David was a man of many talents. He worked various jobs during his lifetime including engineering, construction and machine maintenance at Larsen Manufacturing, where he retired in 2014. In 1969, he married Susan Braun of St. Ansgar, Iowa, and have resided in Northwood for 46 years. They had two children, Timothy and Angela.

David had many hobbies. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, and hunting, but his true passion was blacksmithing.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, children, and two brothers. Also surviving are five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Verna Hartwig, his father- and mother-in-law, Wilfred and Mae Braun, and sister- and brother-in-law, Marjory and Delmer Daniels.

He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
