"Cal" Griffith was a teacher and principal in Jasonville and other local schools and served for a time as a county agent in Ripley and Greene counties in Indiana. He was widowed in 1906 when his first wife, Bessie Mitten, died from tuberculosis leaving two small children, Arthur and Orlan. He married Stella May Waggoner with whom he had four children: Paul H, Claude R, Mary Catherine (Gates), and William R. They lived in Jasonville where In addition to teaching, he also served as a Christian Church minister.
