The son of Miller & Mary (Marsh) Walker, he married Rachel Ann Carr either December 1851 or August 27, 1852 (both reported), in Steelville, Chester County County, Pennsylvania, and fathered Mary J. (b. @1855), Phebe Ann (b. 06/15/57 - married John A. Piper), Harriet E. (b. 01/05/62 - married a Hocker), Eli Kate (b. 06/30/66 - married Wesley Reuben Neff), Olive Myrtle (b. 11/12/71 - married Porter Bush Hooven), and Bertha Maude (b. 08/26/75 - married William Edward Snyder). In 1860, he was a shoemaker living with his family in West Nottingham Township, Chester County, Pennsylvania, and stood 5' 10" tall with brown hair and brown eyes.

A Civil War veteran, he enlisted in Harrisburg April 1, 1864, and mustered into federal service there May 4 as a private with Co. I, 187th Pennsylvania Infantry. On December 23, 1864, he transferred to the 1st Battalion, Veteran Reserve Corps, and honorably discharged the service August 1, 1865.

Cause of his death is listed as "apoplexy and gangrene."
