A settler of 27 years standing, after his arrival in the colony was employed in the Government Survey Department under Mr. Ligar, who was then Surveyor-General.
He assisted in the survey of a portion of the Upper Thames, between Matamata and Tauranga.

He married Catherine LORRIGAN in 1848, New Zealand.

Died at his late residence, Wyndham Street, after a short illness, a slow fever.
He was interred June 20, aged 62 years.

The Town Clerk's file 162/59 of 15/6/1959 at Auckland City Council Archives has Mrs Z. C. M. Harris (nee Grace) and a child of John and Charlotte Grace, describe a tombstone for the Grace family in the Catholic section near Catholic Church. Peter Grace, his wife, their son John Morie Grace, Charlotte Grace (the wife of John Grace) and a female child. The St Patrick's register has Peter Grace buried 20 June 1870 aged 62 years. The New Zealand Herald of 591900 has Mary Grace died 4 September 1900 aged 62 years, sister of Mathew Grace, and buried 5 September 1900 in Symonds Street Cemetery. According to the late 1950's tombstone transcriptions Peter Grace died 18 June 1870 aged 62 years.

Notes: The list of Catholic removed graves has Peter Grace died 1870, his wife Catherine died 1854, John Morie died 1904 and wife Charlotte Maxwell Grace died 1934. There is also their daughter Maria Catherine Cecelia Grace, Michael Grace who died 22 November 1892 and Mary Grace who died 4 September 1900.
