Rubert Ceder entered the presence of the Lord Jesus on November 23rd at 1:30 p.m. He was 95 years old having arrived on this earth on November 3rd, 1921.
Rubert was the first born son of Rosie "Mom" Ceder and Oscar "Pop" Ceder who preceded him in death. Rubert had two treasured siblings, Wilford Ceder and Annette Pannell, who also preceded him in death.
Rubert is survived by his beloved wife of 68 years, Lillie Belle Ceder, most days known to him as "Puddin." Rubert and Lil. Lil and Rubert. Truly the "two became one flesh" as God intended.
Rubert and Lil had two babies who were born and went to Jesus on the day of their birth after two hours of life. Rubert is now reunited with his daughter Peggy Marlyne Ceder (September 10, 1950) and his son Carl Carroll Ceder (May 29, 1952).
Rubert is survived by his son Dennis, his pride and joy for the last 63 years. There has never been a father more supportive, loving and loyal to their son.
Rubert was a father figure to his only daughter-in-law Teresa. She cherished him and he adored her from the day she met him in 1971 until the day he entered his eternal rest.
Rubert was extremely fond of his 3 grandchildren, Keith (41), Anthony (40) and Carl Ceder (35). His great grandchildren also meant the world to him. Sienna (10), Slade (8), Graham (7), Corrie (4), Benjamin (4) and Hudson (2) will all miss their beloved "G.G. Pa." Rubert adored his family and his heart overflowed with love for them daily. His beloved daughters-in-law (Jennifer and Denise) were also sacred to Rubert and were always treated like his own.
Rubert's sister Annette had one daughter Helen Ann Wray whom Rubert was very fond of. Her husband J.T., their children Ryan (38) and Colin (34), their spouses Beth and Daniela, and their children, Parker (5) and Dawson (3), also were beloved to Rubert.
Rubert grew up during the Great Depression. He often extolled the example of his parents saying, "no hungry person in Austin ever got turned away from our house. We didn't have much but my mom never turned any hungry visitor away. Everyone at least got a biscuit."
Rubert was a politician. He served as the County Commissioner in Travis County from 1960-1972. Rubert was a Rancher who loved his "babies," his prized cattle. He also loved his role as an estate auctioneer, helping others on numerous occasions sell their possessions for one reason or another. The people that helped him with his auctions were more than co-workers but treasured friends. Rubert Ceder also loved land. Not just any land, but the beloved land passed down to him from his Swedish relatives that settled in the Decker Community. He served more than 20 years at the Travis County Tax Office. He also worked for the State Agricultural Department for 40 years. He loved Manor, Texas and loved serving the community through the Lions Club. You could find him every other month serving Catfish and was always proud of how many were fed.
Rubert never met a stranger. Most nights you could find him at his favorite restaurant, the Frisco. He went there often, not just because he loved the Ice Box Pie but because he loved seeing his friends who often congregated there.
At the end of the day, Rubert was a farmer, in the lineage of his father and grandfather. He sowed seeds all his life. He planted and harvested wheat, corn, maize, and cotton. But most importantly, Rubert sowed spiritual seeds everywhere he went. He loved the Lord Jesus with all his heart. Everywhere he went he shared the seeds of the gospel. He was perpetually generous, always humble, constantly grateful, and he loved everyone he crossed paths with. Each night you could find Rubert on his deck, singing hymns and interceding for his family with his Scofield Bible in hand. Truly Rubert has now heard a Galilean voice say these words, "Well done, good and faithful servant." He will be greatly missed and never forgotten by all who knew him. All whose hope is in the Lord Jesus will most certainly see him again.
There will be a visitation at Cook-Walden Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held in the Colonial Chapel of Cook-Walden with the interment to follow in the Decker Methodist Cemetery.
Rubert was a faithful, lifelong member of the Decker United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Cemetery at Decker Methodist Church of Austin, Texas (8304 Decker Ln., Austin, Texas 78724).
