Walter Donald Jenkins, age 88, of Mt. Vernon, Missouri, passed away at 12:40 a.m. on Saturday, July 28, 2018, at the Missouri Veterans Home in Mt. Vernon. He was born April 26, 1930, in Mt. Vernon, the son of Eldon and Edith (Hooten) Jenkins.
Don was a 1948 graduate of Mt. Vernon High School and a United States Army Veteran serving during the Korean conflict. He was a truck driver for Lee Way Motor Freight and after retiring he drove a school bus for Mt. Vernon for many years and was the caretaker of the Mt. Vernon IOOF Cemetery. He was a member of the Mt. Vernon First Baptist Church.
On February 1, 1951 he married Wilma Jane Batson in Berryville, Arkansas. She preceded him in death on August 24, 1999.
Don is survived by his daughters, Jane Clifton and her husband, Alan, of Edmond, Oklahoma and Kathryn Maberry and her husband, Joy, of Mt. Vernon, Missouri; two grandchildren, Jessica and Jaclynn Clifton of Yukon, Oklahoma and sister-in-law, Barbara Jenkins of Mission, Kansas.
His parents, Eldon and Edith and brother, Harold Jenkins, preceded him in death.
A graveside service, under the direction of the Fossett-Mosher Funeral Home, in Mt. Vernon will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 4, 2018, at the Mt. Vernon IOOF Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made payable to the Missouri Veterans Home in care of the funeral home.
