John served in the United States Air Force until his retirement as Senior Master Sergeant.
He was a Trained Air Force Medic and Certified Medical Surgical Technician (PA). John had distinguished service in the Vietnam War and was awarded the Purple Heart for
that service at the Bien Hoa Air Force Base Hospital where he was wounded during a
Vietcong offensive attack on the Air Base. He received his wounds when attending to his
fellow wounded Servicemen on the flight line.
