Marion R. Esser, 78, of Spooner, died on Tuesday, Sept. 29, 2009, at Spooner Health System.

Marion was born on September 9, 1931, to Theodore and Ruth Ellingson in Eau Claire. Marion graduated in 1949 from Union Free/Hixton High School in Hixton.

She married James Esser on October 22, 1949, in Alma Center. She had resided in Alma Center, Fairchild, Disco, and La Crosse all before moving to Spooner in 1967.

Marion was a member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Spooner. She was a member of the Christian Women's group, the La Sallette group and the Homemakers club. Marion was also active in the Spooner Senior Center where she was presently the treasurer.

She enjoyed gardening, rose malling, square dancing and playing dice and cards.

Marion was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Orlin, Gerald and Lyle Ellingson; her sister, Lorraine Embretson; and grandsons, Brian Esser and Trevor Okonek.

A memorial service was held on Friday, Oct. 2, at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, Spooner. Fr. Ed Anderson was celebrant. Music was provided by Kim Simon. Interment followed at Calvary Cemetery.

Arrangements were entrusted to Scalzo-Taylor Family Funeral Home, Spooner.
