Captain of Co. F., 28th Texas Cavalry (Dismtd) CSA.
Wounded at Pleasant Hill April 9, 1864. Moved to Mansfield where his leg was amputated. He died Apr 17, 1864. His letters to and from his wife Harriett were published by the Univ. of Ark Press in 2000 titled "Widows by the Thousands"

Son of Martha Pomfret Davis Perry 1st wife of Levin King Perry Sr.Second son of Levin King Perry and his first wife, Martha Pomfret Davis, Theophilus was born and raised in Franklin County.

After the death of his mother(1844-46), his father married her younger sister, Nancy Green Davis, in November of 1846. By 1850 the family had removed to Harrison County, Texas.

He attended the University of North Carolina at Raleigh from 1852-1854, and

Texas muster roll cards show him enlisting at Marshall on 10 May 1862 as 1st Lt. of the Texas Mounted Cavalry.

Commanding Co. F of the 28th Texas [Dismounted] Cavalry, he was so seriously wounded in the Battle of Pleasant Hill on April 9th that his leg was amputated. He died shortly after in the Army hospital at Mansfield.

Died—At Mansfield La, on Sunday April 17th Capt. Theophilus Perry of Harrison Co. Texas, of a wound received at the battle of Pleasant Hill on the 9th while gallantly heading his Company. He was born in Franklin Co. N. C. on Feb. 5th 1833 --Harriet Perry, 'Widows by the Thousand: The Civil war Letters of Theophilus and Harriet Perry, 1862-1864,' p. 243
