Patricia J. Brainerd, age 86, of Mishawaka passed away Monday, May 30, 2016 at the Sanctuary at St. Paul’s. Patricia was born December 13, 1929 in Chicago, Illinois to the late George and Gladys (Powell) Schleifer. On January 2, 1951, she married Richard L. Brainerd. He preceded her in death on February 8, 2015 after 64 years of marriage.
Patricia is survived by her sons, Steven (Patricia) Brainerd of Dallas, Texas and Thomas (Teresa) Brainerd of South Bend. Also surviving are three grandchildren: Natalie Payne, Phillip Brainerd, and Hillary Brainerd, a sister, Martha Ann Jessup, Plainfield, IN, and two great-grandchildren. Patricia was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Richard, a brother, George Schleifer, and a sister, Waneta Schleifer.
Per Patricia’s wishes, there will be no services. Chapel Hill Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
Mrs. Brainerd was employed for many years by the School City of Mishawaka as an educator. She was a member of Tri Kappa, and enjoyed traveling and golfing with family and friends. Patricia was a dedicated fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and Notre Dame.
