William was the son of John & Mary Jane (Leggett) Clark. He married Margaret Smitley on 24 Feb 1870 in Harrison County, Ohio. They had six children.
After Margaret died, he married Hester Guthrie. Rumor has it that he shot through a cellar door--shooting a milk strainer out of Hester's hand. They say he spent two years in prison.
He died at age 81 of chronic interatitial nephritis.
