He was the 10th of 12 children. He was too young to fight in the Civil War. He moved to Equality in Gallatin County, IL in the late 1860s where he married Lucy Coleman about 1869. After Lucy's death in 1880, he moved his family to Arkansas in the spring of 1881. He remarried and had 3 children. He died at Leachville, Craighead County, AR at his son Edward's house. He was buried in Arnold Cemetery near Swifton, Jackson County, AR. Information from Becky Ferguson source information was from a research paper by Billy Ray Williams (great-great grandson to Robert M. Baker Sr) in July 1977.

Robert married Lucy Adeline Colman (abt 1841 IL-1880) then married 19 Nov 1882 Jackson Co, AR Theodocia “Dottie” Conners (1862-1903).
