Andrew grew up in Wyeth County, Virginia and moved to Knoxville, Tennessee where he worked as a carpenter. He moved to Texas around 1854. Here he helped build the old state Capitol building that eventually burned down.

Andrew Pickle served as a Lieutenant in Company D, Flournoy's Regiment, 16th Texas Cavalry. When we returned home from The Civil War, he became one of the most substantial and public-spirited citizens in the Bagdad/Leander community.
