In the death of William Delehant this city is called upon to mourn the loss of one of its oldest and most respected citizens. Mr. Delehant had been suffering from rheumatism and other complaints for some time. about four weeks ago his sickness took the serious turn which culminated in death on Tuesday night at the home of his son Daniel Delehant of Center avenue.

Deceased was born in Kings county, Ireland, in 1822, and came to this country in 1849, taking up his residence at Suspension Bridge (now the North section of Niagara Falls) a year later. For 30 years he was employed as millwright in the Witmer Brother's flouring mill.

During his residence in this city he has successfully filled several offices under the old village government, among them being the office of the village treasurer, street superintendent, tax collector, and village trustee. He was married twice, his first wife having died in 1863.

Mr. Delehant was a man of powerful build and of genial and unselfish disposition. He leaves a brother and sister in Dubuque, Ia., and a brother and sister in Denver, Col.

Out of 10 children only two survive him: Daniel Delehant, mail transfer clerk at the Tenth street depot, and William Delehant, operator at Buffalo.

The funeral will be held tomorrow at 9 A.M. from the church of the Sacred Heart. Rev. Father Hines will conduct solem high mass.

The funeral of the late William Delehant was observed this morning from the Church of the Sacred Heart. High mass was sung by Rev. Father Hines. During his sermon Father Hines referred to the untainted and loyal character which the deceased had borne throughout his life and the gentle and uncomplaining manner with which he bore his affliction. The attendance was large and the service long and impressive. Interment was in St. Mary's cemetery.
