Vada Lorraine Edgman Duncan born February 1921 in Kansas died January 28, 2016 in Davenport, Iowa, just a few days short of her 95th birthday. She is the daughter of Ivan and Jessie Edgman of Lineville, Iowa.

Vada Lorraine grew up in a farming community in southern Iowa, married Dale Duncan and moved to Davenport, Iowa, where she had four children--Patricia Duncan now in CT, Dennis Duncan, Barbara Duncan, and James Duncan all in Davenport. She worked at JC Penney Co and was Department Manager for Turn Style, a chain store out of Chicago, and for Moreway, also a chain store. After her retirement, she spent years tracing the family history back to England and Scotland in the early 1600's. She would regale the family with anecdotes about the wills, the travels, the marriages, the illnesses, and the children of these early pioneers.

She, along with fellow genealogists, spent hundreds of hours collecting information from Scott County tombstones, military records, social security records, and courthouse records in order to computerize the data. She received a plaque from Iowa Governor Branstad in recognition of her work with the Court Records Project in Scott County. She also received an award in recognition of her services rendered to The Izaak Walton League of America. Her contributions are noted on a plaque at the downtown Davenport Public Library in the Genealogy section and monies generated through the Community Foundation in her honor go toward furthering the research and funding computers and books at that library.

Besides her four children, she is survived by grandchildren Les Duncan, Tasha Schultz, Joshua Duncan, Joseph Duncan and greatgrandchildren Tanner Duncan, Alauna Schultz, Dylan Duncan, and Hayley Jones.
