On December 20, 2015, Sgt. Edward Ivan Ablang died unexpectedly in a motorcycle accident in Junction City, Kansas, leaving behind his beautiful wife, Kelsey, and two sons, Adrian (8) and Jaxson (turning 5 in February). Though he was wearing his helmet, he hit his head on a guardrail and died instantly. Edward and Kelsey grew from middle school sweethearts to soul mates. He was a dedicated and loving husband, father, brother, uncle, son, cousin, friend, soldier, hero and an incredibly bright soul who left us far too soon. The family was in the midst of moving back to the Pacific NW next month to be closer to the rest of Edward's family and siblings, including Farida, Farrah, Aiza, and Walter (in spirit). Edward's Memorial service will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, December 31, 2015, at St. Thomas More Parish, 6511 176th St SW Lynnwood, WA 98037 followed by a reception. We will then move to Holyrood Cemetery, 205 NE 205th St Seattle, WA 98155 for a Military Honor Guard and Burial ceremony.

Fort Riley officials released more information Tuesday about a 29-year-old Fort Riley soldier who died Sunday in a single-vehicle motorcycle crash in Geary County.

Sgt. Edward Ivan Ablang was identified as the victim in the crash near Junction City.

Fort Riley officials said Ablang was assigned to the 1st Infantry Division and was part of the Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 601st Aviation Support Battalion, 1st Combat Aviation Brigade.

Ablang died about 10:30 p.m. on US-77 highway, two miles south of Junction City.

Kansas Highway Patrol officials said Ablang was traveling north on a 2014 Suzuki motorcycle on US-77 when he failed to maintain a lane of traffic, then went off the roadway into the east ditch. The motorcycle overturned several times, ejecting Ablang, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

Ablang was wearing a helmet, the patrol said.

The investigation into the accident is ongoing.

Ablang, who was from Edmonds, Wash., was a wheeled vehicle mechanic, Fort Riley officials said.

He joined the U.S. Army in 2007 and arrived at Fort Riley in May 2013, deploying once to Iraq and once to Afghanistan.

"Words cannot express the true sadness of the loss of Edward," said Col. John M. Cyrulik, 1st CAB commander. "He will be greatly missed by all who knew and served with him. His family is our family, and we will support them unconditionally through this difficult time."
