Karen Sue Bateman Maxwell, 55, of Doyline, LA, died Monday, November 21, 2005, at her residence. A native of Hornersville, MO, a resident of Doyline for the past seven years and a former resident of Haughton, LA, she was a bookkeeper until her illness. She and her husband retired at Barksdale Air Force Base in Bossier City, LA, after 22 ½ years in the Air Force.

She is survived by her husband of 37 years, Ret. TSGT. William R. Maxwell of Doyline; two sons, William R. "Rob" Maxwell, Jr. of Bossier City and Christopher Heath Gomes of Wiggins, MS; two daughters, Crista Dawn Malone of Haughton and Christinna Heather Gomes of Connecticut; her mother, Genevieve Bateman of Lafe, AR; four brothers, Jack Lee Bateman and Paul Wayne Bateman of Pine Bluff, Gaylon Keith Bateman of Paragould, and Frances Iven Gomes of Andalusia, AL; a sister, Janice Kay Bateman of Lafe; and five grandchildren, Colton Slade Malone, Piper Elizabeth Malone, Kaylynn Shane Coldmen, Cassie Hanna Gomes and Baleich Gomes. She was preceded in death by her father, Hershell Bateman and a brother, Michael Bateman.

Funeral services were at 2 p.m., Wednesday, November 23, in the Southside Baptist Church with Rev. Charles Pullin officiating. Burial followed at the Cleveland Cemetery. Pallbearers were Russell Maxwell, Mike Sanderlin, Teddy Hickman, John McLeod, John Malone and Gerald Tomerlin. Funeral arrangements were by Jones-Hartshorn Funeral Home of Hamburg.
