Charles E. Gillispie, 73, of Salem, died Monday, January 16, 1995.

He was owner and C.E.O. of Salem Quality Equipment and Salem Coach and Equipment. A World War II Army veteran, he served in the European Theatre of Operations.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Audrey Hamersly Gillispie; a brother, Oval B. Gillispie.

He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Ed and Betty Gillispie, Salem; daughter, Kimberly Gillispie, Salem; grandsons, Matthew Gillispie, Michael Gillispie, both of Salem; sisters, Clelia Howell, Salem, Margaret Scott, Roanoke, Evelyn Maxey, Vinton, Millie Swain, Chelsea Dearing, both of Salem; mother-in-law, Ethel A. Hamersly; brother-in-law, Russell G. Hamersly, both of Roanoke; also numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, January 19, at the John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home Chapel, Salem, with Rev. Aaron J. Rummage officiating. Interment will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. Military rites will be held at the graveside. Memorials may be made to ARC-CHD Industries, 3355 Shenandoah Ave., Roanoke, VA 24017 or the Salvation Army, 724 Dale Ave., Roanoke, VA 24013. The family will receive friends 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
