Mrs. Elizabeth Canfil, 88, resident of Sweetwater for 29 years before moving to Roby two years ago, died Saturday at 7 p.m. in the home of her son, Dr. A. W. Canfil, in Roby.
A native of Belmont County, Ohio, she was born December 13, 1859. At the age of seven, she moved with her family to Haddam, Kans. where she was married in 1881 to Charles Canfil.
The couple moved to Sweetwater from Haddam in 1917. Mr. Canfil died in 1922. Mrs. Canfil continued to live here until moving to Roby two years ago.
Funeral services were held Sunday at 4 p.m. at the First Methodist Church in Roby with the Rev. L. B. Smallwood and the Rev. David Binkley officiating. Pallbearers were J. H. Tubb, E. C. Brand, Jack Key, Dr. Charles Elliott, L. W. (Dock) Scott, and Charlie Wade. Interment was in the Sweetwater Cemetery under direction of Wells Funeral Home.
Survivors include one son, Dr. A. W. Canfil of Roby; three grandsons, Weldon Canfil of Fort Worth, Charles Canfil of Port Arthur, and David Canfil of Roby; and five great-grandchildren.
