OTIS J. THOMPSON – SCHERERVILLE


Otis J. Thompson of Schererville, passed away March 22, 2005. He is survived by his wife Cleo; three daughters; seven grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.


Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 26, 2005, at 11:30 AM at Kuiper Funeral Home, 9039 Kleinman Road, Highland, Indiana, Rev. Bruce Bigelow officiating, burial Chapel Law Memorial Gardens, Schererville. Friends may visit with the family on Friday, March 25, 2005, from 2 – 5 and 7 – 9 pm at the Kuiper Funeral Home.


Mr. Thompson, born and raised in Elkhart, Indiana, was a resident of the Calumet area since 1936 when he graduated from Purdue University and joined Shell Oil Co. in East Chicago as a mechanical engineer. He retired from Amoco Oil Co. in 1972 as a manager of Design Engineering in the Planning and Engineering Department in whiting. He was an Indiana registered professional engineer and received a "Sagamore of the Wabash" certificate from the State of Indiana for serving twelve years on the Indiana Boiler and Pressure Board in Indianapolis.


He was a long time member of the Kiwanis Club of Lansing and held numerous position in the Illinois – Eastern Iowa District of Kiwanis international. In 1981, he organized the Golden K Kiwanis Club in Lansing. He was also awarded the "George Hixon" and "The Louis Amodeo" Award by the Lansing Kiwanis Cub. He also received the 2002 Purdue Alumni Association Citizenship Award. He was a former member of the Lorimer Memorial Baptist Church in Dolton where he served as an elder, President of the Senior Citizen's group and taught adult Bible School classes for many years. Currently he was a member of Lake Hills Baptist Church.


Memorial may be made to the Kiwanis Crippled Children's Camp at Plymouth, Indiana, through the Lansing Kiwanis Club Secretary.
