Homer Thomas Smith of Galena, OH and a long time resident of Lucasville, passed away peacefully, on Thursday, October 29, 2015

A son of the late Jesse T. and Genevieve Hoops Smith, he was born in Portsmouth on September 17, 1929 and was a 1947 graduate of Clay High School, a former employee of Ideal Milk Company, an insurance agent and a skilled billiards player. He married Shirley Louise Vogel on February 15, 1949 in Lucasville. She preceded him in death on May 20, 2014.

He is survived by their five children, Gregory H. (Paula K. Moritz) Smith of Minford, Susan E. (Paul) Keller, of Wheelersburg, Debra (Ron) Smith of Rio Rancho, NM, Dayna (Ken) Lemieux, of Galena, with whom he resided, and Gina Mercer of Gahanna; eleven grandchildren; Dr. Cindy (Chad) Turner, Amy (Aaron) Reeder, Shannon (Brent) Hunt, Travis (Sarah Baker) Keller, Nancy Keller, Erin (John) Wogaman, Ryan Smith, Kayla (Dan) Powell, Addison (Danny Degnan) O'Neil, Jacob Mercer and Zachary Mercer; seventeen great-grandchildren; two sisters, Lucille (Ralph) Hutchinson of Minford and Linda Wright of Colorado Springs; and several nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Clarence E. Smith and Norman L. Smith; five sisters, Christine Klein, Virginia Steele, Mary Karl, JoAnn Swaim and Phyllis Jane Mason.
