Perninah Mae Hopkins was the daughter of William David Hopkins and Rebecca Ann Sanders. Although her tombstone states birth year as 1871, the Federal Census 1880 Perry Co, AL states she was age 5. She married Anderson Davis in Perry Co, AL, then moved to Lincoln Parish, LA where they raised their 8 children. Two of the sons were buried next to her and her husband. After exiting a bus one fall evening, she was hit by a car and died before reaching a hospital. Over a week's time, three articles, which were the front-page headlines in the Ruston Daily Leader newspaper, told of the investigation of her death and the sad findings of the coroner's report: it was just an accident. No death certificate was ever filed with the State of LA. Obit: Mrs. Davis is survived by her husband, A. B. Davis, five sons, Steve of Bernice, Perk of Alabama, John W. of Dallas, GA, Henry and Jess A. both of Tallulah, and three daughters Mrs. Annie May Brown of Dubach, Mrs. Polly Dawkin, and Mrs. Dora Simpson both of Texas. Funeral arrangements will be made under the directions of Kilpatrick Funeral Parlor, Ruston, however, have not been completed. The service will be at Fellowship Baptist Church, northeast of Dubach.
