Riley Elwood Brown of Cape Girardeau, formerly of Steele, died August 21, 1982 at Chaffee General Hospital after a long illness.
Mr. Brown was born June 17, 1911 in Clinton County, Tennessee, the son of Gilbert and Bertie Brown. On September 20, 1932, he married Rubye Spencer in Steele.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church and an ordained deacon. Mr. Brown worked as a dispatcher and driver for Kimble, Delta ABF Truck Lines for 30 years. He retired in 1967 due to ill health. He was a member of the Teamsters Local 574 and the Silver Jubilee Retirement Club.
Mr. Brown leaves his wife, Ruby Brown; three sons: Gene of Kansas City; Dean of Indianapolis, Indiana; and Skip of St. Louis; one daughter, Mrs. John Bowen of Cape Girardeau; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild; two brothers, Paul of Martinez, California, and Wayne of Dayton, Tennessee; and one sister, Mrs. Grady Hughes of Sacramento, California.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Harold Mack and Don; and one sister, Mrs. Ruth Jones.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, August 24 at the First Baptist Church in Cape Girardeau. Ford Funeral Home of Cape Girardeau handled the arrangements.
