Jay Warner Pearce

Las Vegas, NV

1946 - 2002

Jay Warner Pearce passed away January 13, 2002 in Las Vegas, Nevada due to complications from a severe strain of tuberculosis contracted from his work as a bus driver in Las Vegas. Even though he was eventually able to return to work, his lungs had been so badly damaged by the disease he never recovered good health. His sister and brother-in-law, Verla and Richard Cripps, were his loving care-givers during his last years.

Jay was born October 1, 1946 in Cedar City, Utah to Alta Vilo Davis and Thomas Jay Pearce. He was the youngest of four children. He grew up in New Harmony, Utah and attended New Harmony Elementary School through the fifth grade until the school burned down. He then attended school in Cedar City from sixth grade through High School. He served in the U. S. Army December 1965 to December 1967 and received his high school degree while in Korea. He attended Clark County Community College and a course from University of Nevada at Las Vegas after he returned home from serving his country. Some of the positions he held were working for the U. S. Postal Service, Supervisor of Bowen Car Rental Service and General Manager of Sunshine Wholesale.

He married Janet Manning and they had two children. They later divorced. Jay is survived by his two children Jason Lee Pearce and Jenifer (Shawn) Olson, his brother Jerrold (Norma, deceased), and his two sisters Avey (J. V.) Davis and Verla (Richard) Cripps. His four grandsons Brayden, Davin, Cayson and Ashden Olson were born after his death. He was preceded in death by his nephew Lonny Cripps, his parents Thomas and Vilo Pearce and a sister-in-law Dora Pearce.
