He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having trained soldiers at Fort Riley during the Korean War. He worked for Western Auto for more than 30 years, retiring in 1986. A job transfer to the home office in 1968 allowed Thurman and Kathy to raise their two children in Overland Park as transplanted Hoosiers.
Surviving are his wife, Kathy, son, Don Ridlen, both of Overland Park, KS, daughter, Shirley (Ridlen) Brooks and husband, Kevin, Cleveland, MO, two granddaughters, Erin Brooks, St. Louis, MO, and Cori Hamilton and husband, Shane, Surprise, AZ.
