Judge John F. Cahalin, 69, who was re-elected to a second full term in department No. 1 of Multnomah county district court in November, died early Friday at St. Vincent's hospital. He was stricken with an attack of bronchial asthma and taken to the hospital at 2:30 a. m. Born in Portland June 16, 1881, Judge Cahalin had assumed the district bench first on appointment by the late Governor Earl Snell in 1943. He was elected to it for a six-year term the following year. Judge Cahalin was a grandson of Hugh Burns, one of the organizers of Oregon's provisional government at Champoeg in 1843. His father was the late Edward Cahalin, Portland merchant. Judge Cahalin began the practice of law in Portland in 1906, after graduation from University of Oregon. Later he served as deputy city attorney and as deputy district attorney of Multnomah county. He was not married. Surviving are a sister, Katherine, and brother, Joseph J. Cahalin, with whom he resided, at 2083 N. W. Johnson street. Requiem high mass for Judge Cahalin will be Tuesday at 10 a. m. at St. Mary's Catholic cathedral. District court will be closed all day Tuesday. Recitation of the rosary will be Monday at 8:30 p.m at Hennessey, Goetsch, and Magee funeral home,
